I’m attending the DECLARE Conference at the end of July in Dallas. I was excited to discover a Christian blogging conference close to me! I love both the east and west coasts, but they are a fer piece to travel for this Texas girl. In preparation for DECLARE, those attending are writing “get-to-know-you” posts and linking up on the DECLARE blog.
We’re supposed to include a current photo. Well, most of my current photos are from SnapChat (loving my loves’ loves!), so I had to step outside and take one–uhm, it’s time for fresh color!
I live in the growing city of Pearland, Texas–which is about 20 miles south of Houston. When we moved here 16 years ago, the town’s population was 46,000. Today, we have grown to 108,000. An H-E-B now sits where cows used to graze. But since it’s my favorite grocery store, and only seven minutes from my house, I’m not complaining!
I was an IT gal for twelve years, writing in-house software for automotive dealerships (on “big iron”). That backgrounds keeps me almost unafraid to try new things on my blog. But a couple of days ago I tried to add a new font and my whole website went crazy. If you happened to drop by during that time–SORRY!
I’ve been married for 25 years to the Tim-man, and we have 3 older, active teenagers: Max, Rachel, and Abby. Max is in the youth band at church, and both of the girls are in Guard. They perform with the band during football season and then have their own competition season in the winter. If you’ve never seen a guard performance, you can check these out here. THIS ONE is Rachel’s. THIS ONE is Abby’s.
I love women’s ministry. I love seeing women fall in love with God’s Word and His Son, Jesus Christ. I love teaching Bible studies. With my writing, however, I’ve stepped away from teaching small groups so I can teach in a different way. That said, my favorite thing to write is Bible studies. I love God’s Word! I love learning and sharing what I learn. So writing Bible studies is a combination of my two favorite activities (outside of spending time with my family). 🙂
My favorite thing to read is good suspense. I used to love historical fiction, but they became a little heavy in the reading and I like to escape a little. My favorite suspense authors are Dee Henderson and Irene Hannon.
Next month I get to do my favorite thing! Sit all day on a beautiful beach. No laundry, no grocery shopping, no cooking meals, no rehearsals. Just me, my family, and God … and sunrises! I just need to grab a couple of good suspense novels!
I love the title of my blog, Sweeter than Honey, because that is what God says His Word is–and I’ve found it to be true. I probably need some help with design, although I do think it is fairly simple. But I’m not satisfied with the title font (thus my mishap the other day!). Since I’m a “small blogger” with meager funds for this, AND because I am technical, I attempt small changes on my own–usually with success. Clearly, I have some learning to do!
- Kindle or paperback? Waaaay prefer reading on my Kindle app
- Coffee or Tea? Coffee–black
- Musical or Movie? Movie–action
- Mountains or the Beach? Beach–although I love the mountains; they just aren’t near enough
- Night out or Night in? Relaxing night in
- Watch sports, play sports, or no sports? Depends … I love high school football. That’s about it.
I can’t wait to connect with these other bloggers face-to-face!!!
