Our culture is preoccupied with personal perfection and physical beauty. The lengths people go to in order to achieve the look borders on obsession. The right lipstick, the right eyeliner or mascara. (I won’t lie. I do have my own favorites.) And then the time to apply it ever so carefully. And clothes! When I was in high school, wearing a pair of Calvin Klein jeans was the ultimate. Today it’s MissMe (I think). It’s not just the clothes, it’s the body that goes into the clothes. I am not dissing a healthy lifestyle. (And yes, I know I need to… Read More ›
Living WITHOUT – Write 31 Days – 2015
“In fact, according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified with blood. For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness,” (Hebrews 9:22, NLT). Have you ever given blood? Have you ever needed a blood transfusion? Has someone you cared about ever needed a blood transfusion? Without blood, we die. I gave blood for the first time about five years ago. I don’t know why I waited so long to do it. I’m not afraid of needles and have never had difficulty having my own blood drawn. But a situation came up, and blood was needed…. Read More ›
We have a lot of trees and plants in our yard. A couple of times a year we do major trimming and pruning. We start as early in the morning as possible and usually finish by early afternoon–with several piles of green trash ready for pick-up. Sometimes I don’t want to cut off certain branches, because they look so vibrant and healthy. But after being cut off, by the end of the day, they are completely wilted. Within a few days, they are dry and crunchy. They are no longer attached to their source of life and don’t have much… Read More ›
He made it all! Everything you see. The sun and the sky. The moon and the stars. Mountains and seas. Animals of all kinds–even ones we’ve yet to discover! Without God, there is nothing! “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made,” (John 1:3, NIV). “Everything came into existence through him. Not one thing that exists was made without him,” (John 1:3, GW). I love nature. All of it. I think that’s the reason I like camping so much. (I will clarify, however. I like to camp in the cold–not the heat!) I… Read More ›
Have you ever been grocery shopping for your evening meal and had someone come to mind and you thought, Hmmm. I need to make an extra pan and take it over them. Maybe you knew what was going on with them, maybe you didn’t. But when you delivered dinner, you were met with surprise and deep gratitude. Maybe you were gathering gear to get out the door and the Lord prompted you to call Mary and offer to take her daughter with you. So you did and find out that they were in crisis mode. Your taking their daughter with… Read More ›
Success requires planning. Plain and simple. There is no way around it. From something as simple as getting your week’s groceries, to graduating from college, if you want to succeed, you need a plan. The more complicated your goal, the more more important it is to include guidance from people who have already walked the road before you. When you head to the grocery store without a list, invariably, you will forget something–maybe even something important for that night’s dinner or a crucial element of your son’s science project. If you are planning your semester’s college classes, you need guidance. There is… Read More ›
Bethel Music’s song “Shepherd”1 is new for me. I love how it speaks to God’s care and strength for us when we are weak. How He leads us by the hand. The lyrics are included in the video. Enjoy! ==== 1Cook, Amanda. Shepherd. Bethel Music, 2015, CD.
