BE is Not about me
I am becoming increasingly aware that BEing is NOT about me. We’ve all heard the phrase, It’s not about you! You may have said it to someone. Someone may have actually said it to you. What it means is that we are not paying attention to those around us. Instead, we are absorbed in our own world–and we may not even know it.
I’ve said No to several things already this year so that I can have a less tangled schedule. God is showing me that this, in turn, means being free to focus on relationships. First with Him, then with family and friends. I’m seeing things I haven’t seen before–simply because I was too busy to even notice.
For the next four Tuesdays, my posts are going to center around what God is showing me, or has shown me, about deepening the quality of the relationships in my life–all grounded in Scripture.
For today, though, I’ll share a fun little thing that I’m doing with my teenagers these two weeks before Valentine’s Day. I found a great idea on Pinterest a couple of years ago, called Heart Attack. You cut out some hearts and write down the things you love about your child, and then tape it to their door. I make sure to include a verse or two of Scripture that is significant at this time in their lives. My husband participates, too. It’s fun to watch my kids wake up each morning, eager to see what I wrote. Both of my girls have kept ALL of the hearts on their doors for the last two years! Rachel even rearranged hers. This year we are adding a new batch. It takes a little bit of time, but it is worth it!
Hi, Dianne. I am just reading this post. I really like the Pinterest “Heart Attack” idea. Thank you for sharing that with us. God has been dealing with me the last few (good or bad?) years about making it all about Him! I have to choose to do that and not dwell on the negative, or come into a situation negatively, but with love and make it all about Him. Not an easy thing to do, but doable with our wonderful Holy Spirit Who comes alongside against that which is not of God. Just yesterday I listened to a wonderful message given during Moody Founder’s Week by Ron Hutchcraft and through Him God reiterated “Make it ALL about Jesus!” The theme for Moody Founder’s Week this year was “Running the Race.” God is so very good!
Our hearts and minds are running the same path! <3
