They Speak WITHOUT Saying A Word
Our family loves to camp. Preferably some place where it’s quiet and city lights are far away. We are blessed to have dear friends who share their property with us.
One of our favorite things is to lie down on the ground, and watch the sky on a cloudless night. The moon and the stars provide more than enough to light the area. Falling stars are easy to spot–along with the Milky Way. It seems like we could lie there for hours. It’s incredibly peaceful.
I love to watch the sunrise–rays filtered through the tall trees and cold morning fog–reflected on a small lake. Stunning!
Even watching the lazy cattle meandering through the fields, heads bobbing as they make their way to the next grazing spot is a delight.
The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known.
They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard.
Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. (Psalm 19:1-4) [Emphasis added.]
Our family agrees that you can’t gaze on a night sky, a sunrise, even simple creatures (but who said cows are simple?)–and not know that there is a Creator–a Grand Designer. In fact, God made it clear that His creation is enough to point to His existence. As as such, we are without excuse when it comes to
They [wicked people] know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. (Romans 1:19-20)
A quiet place away from routine is not always available. But we can still see the beauty of God’s creation all around us.
- A rainbow after a thunderstorm
- The morning sun dispelling the fog in an open field
- The lizard that changes colors as it moves from plant to brick
- The unique fragrance of a rose in bloom
- A newborn baby in the arms of its mother
All of these speak without saying a word to the glory of their Creator.
When Jesus made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the people began to shout:
Blessings on the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in highest heaven! (Luke 19:38)
Of course the Pharisees were upset about it and told Jesus to make them stop. His response?
If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers! (Luke 19:40)
All of creation points to God. The mere nature of our physical bodies points to our Creator. So should our lips and our voices!
The physical nature of our bodies points to our Creator. So should our lips and our voices! Share on XPraise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven!
Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness!
Praise him with a blast of the ram’s horn; praise him with the lyre and harp!
Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes!
Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals.
Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord! (Psalm 150)

This post was so beautiful! What a perfect reminder!
I really like that idea – THEY SPEAK WITHOUT A SOUND OR WORD!! I can see that the two of us are a lot alike with the outdoors, nature, picture thing 😀 Enjoyed reading your post today with the 5-4-5 challenge 😀 Glad I got you!!
Love your list of suggestions for where to look for the beauty of God’s creations. Great post!
Karen
Thanks, Krista. Our Creator God is the amazing One who creates beauty!
thanks so much! I popped over to your blog and enjoyed your sunrise pictures! <3
Love this!!! While I am not necessarily what one would call ‘outdoorsy’ – I have to have my outside time to drink in His creation and if I find I can’t ‘find’ Him… I just look to the skies!
Thans, Karen. Thinking I need to head outside for a bit before it rains so I can enjoy some more of it!
We have those days, don’t we, Karrilee. A cloudless sky, a threatening sky. The night sky … all of it. Blessings to you today!
They speak without saying a word….what a powerful statement! I am convinced that God went overboard on all of creation just to make absolute certain humans would take notice of Him. So sad that many will never see Him in creation, and such a blessing for those of us who do.
And, if we didn’t praise Him? The rocks would! What an amazing God.
This post feels so peaceful, Dianne. I love being in God’s creation. It often centers me as to Who is in control of everything in our lives. It’s so amazing, too, how He designs each unique creature and person. Thank you for helping me to focus back on the marvel of our Creator and His creation.
(often my husband and I will notice someone (obviously unsaved) giving praise to God in a way that they don’t even realize … and we whisper … “even the ‘rocks’ cry out”)
I love that … God going overboard to make sure we take notice of Him. It’s hard to imagine anyone not seeing. Thanks for coming by. 🙂
Thank you, Trudy. You touched my heart. So glad this feels peaceful. Sometimes I feel like my posts are just the opposite. God wins!! ((hugs))
One of my favorite chapters in the Bible! The heavens declare the power of God–we still haven’t figured everything out–there IS a God–and he LOVES us.
Amen! You brought peace to my soul this evening. Praises to the God who is providing the beautiful sky I now see out my back window. Blessings to you!
Amen, Anita! He’s put forever in our hearts! ((hugs))
I wish I could be there to watch it with you, Mary.
