Anticipating His Sustaining
The next several days ahead are full – almost overwhelmingly so. The schedule of a household full of teenagers and their activities is overwhelming on its own. Adding doctors’ appointments and preparing to go out of town later in the week make things even crazier. Introduce an unexpected family hospitalization.
I was emotionally tired before I ever sat down in my “special chair” for my quiet time this morning. As the Lord took me through His Word, however, He reminded me that He would strengthen me as I go through the day.
Philippians 3:10 was especially meaningful. “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings…”
The Bible Knowledge Commentary explains “to know Christ” means “to know by experience.” Paul wanted to “share in the suffering of Christ”–but he also wanted to know the sustaining power of God through the suffering.
As far as I know, today is not going to be filled with terrific suffering for me personally. (I don’t know; maybe it will be.) I know today will be difficult, but I have a new perspective. My mindset is to “watch” for God’s sustaining strength, but I probably won’t recognize it until the day is finished. Starting the day, knowing that He will walk me through it, lifts the weight of the emotional burden.
Other comforting Scriptures from this morning include Psalm 23 and Psalm 91.
Good morning Dianne;
You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
In our prayers
Love
