Today we wrap up this series on the Purposes of God's Word. I think my favorite facet is the way God's Word encourages our hearts. Probably because it's this aspect of the Bible that I find myself needing so much. I don't like to admit it, but I'm easily discouraged. As a Type-A personality, I am an in-charge, make-things-happen (even a fixer) kind-of-gal. I like things finished and tied with a bow. When I can arrange my life like that, I feel settled and in control. But the reality is, life ... read more
3 Ways God’s Word Guides Our Decision-Making
God’s Word is amazing. No other book on the planet is as powerful and practical. First and foremost, The Bible shows us the God who loves us--and our need for a Savior. God's Word also cleanses us and allows us to have victory over sin. But also, God's Word guides our decision-making. From simple, everyday choices--like who to hang out with and how we spend our money (maybe that one's a biggie!). To the big things us in our lives--like whom to marry and where we should live. God's Word guides ... read more
When God’s Word Takes Root In Your Heart
When was the last time you heard a song on the radio that you fell in love with? So you downloaded a copy off of iTunes and played it over and over until you knew it by heart. You know what happens when you do that. The song sticks with you. It’s almost like background music to your day. No one else can hear it, but you hear the melody and the words running through your mind. It takes root in your heart. You downloaded this song because it resonated with something deep inside of you. While ... read more
3 Ways God’s Word Cleanses Us
Some mornings when I am having my quiet time, I think it’s going to be a gentle, quiet time of reading and prayer. Sometimes I even think it might be somewhat benign. (I know, sounds awful, doesn’t it!) But then I read a verse—and ZING! God shows me something in my life that needs attention. I have a choice. Am I going to obey? Or am I going to keep reading and move on with my day? Later, I read a different passage or verse—and ZING! That same issue. I may have yielded that issue in my ... read more
Hope For Weary Moms
The TruthBytes for Moms app is available in the Play Store (search "TruthBytes") for Android devices and here for Apple devices. Being a mom is tough. You’ve heard it said, “Parenting is not for the faint of heart.” Boy, is that true. From the beginning it’s exhausting. Sleepless nights, constant feedings and changings, which leads to endless piles of laundry. You can’t keep up with it all. Then there is managing menus, getting groceries, preparing meals, overseeing schoolwork, ... read more
The Purpose of God’s Word–Relationship
Today marks the beginning of a new series. For the next few weeks, we are going to delve into the purpose of God's Word--the Bible. We'll explore what it means to trust God, to walk with God, to learn from Him, and to find our hope in Him. God reveals Himself (His heart and His ways) in His Word. The Bible is the primary way that we get to know God. It is also the primary way God speaks to us. When God does speak to us outside of His Word (for example, Holy Spirit nudges or the counseling of ... read more
Daily Encouragement for Moms
The importance of daily time in the Word for every Christian is paramount. Without it, we cannot hope to grow in our faith or walk out what we believe. As believers, God calls us to encourage one another in our faith, in our calling, in everything we do. I don’t know of a group of people who need encouragement more than moms do. Often their work goes unnoticed and unappreciated. One encouraging truth from God’s Word can make the difference in how they make it through their day. Several ... read more
Wishing You Christmas Joy!
Joy. I don’t know of a more delightful word. Just saying it does something inside me. Christmas Joy is extra special. Joy was the angel’s message to Zechariah, when he announced the birth of John the Baptist. But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer. Your wife, Elizabeth, will give you a son, and you are to name him John. You will have great joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.” (Luke 1:14) Joy was the angel’s message to the shepherds ... read more
