The God Who Sees Me
Today is my second time to participate in Five Minute Friday, and last night was my first “Twitter party!” I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was blessed by the real life that I saw. Ladies sharing their hearts about everything from chocolate and bathing dogs, to praying for loved ones in crises.
The prompt for today is the word NOTICE. My first thought was, El Roi–the name Hagar gave to God when she was alone in the desert.
Following is my five-minute free write for this word.
The God Who Sees
Sweet, young Hagar. Caught in circumstances she did not create. When Abraham and Sarah could not conceive a child of their own, they decided Abraham should marry Sarah’s maidservant, Hagar, and have a child by her. Once Hagar became pregnant, typical female jealousies ensued. Sarah was so harsh with Hagar that Hagar ran away into the desert.
I can only imagine her frustration and fear.
- Alone.
- Pregnant.
- No way to care for herself or her soon-to-be-born child.
- No hope for the future.
- Desperate.
But God stepped in.
He saw her and her hopeless situation, and gave her promises for a hope-filled future.
Hagar’s response?
She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” (Genesis 16:13)
You can read her whole story in Genesis 16.
God Sees You!
We may feel alone, but God sees us. He knows where we are, what kind of mess we are in–whether we created it or not.
He doesn’t leave us alone. He walks us through our difficult times. With a plan in mind.
Psalms 139:1-12
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. (Isaiah 43:2)
I found you over at Five Minute Friday! I’ve only done it a few times but I like the shortened time and a word prompt. My favorite part of the Hagar story is that God used a name for Himself that He only used for her. As if He wanted her to know how special she was… to Him. Thanks for sharing!
You’re right on that! El Roi is found only here. Very special. Thanks for stopping by!
Dianne, your words brought tears to my eyes and encouragement to my heart. Thank You for the reminder that He is the God Who sees ans “He walks us through our difficult times. With a plan in mind.” Blessings to you. Visiting from Five Minute Friday.
Thanks so much for coming by. God’s Word is straight as an arrow. Meeting us right where we need it. 🙂
You are so right. He is the one who sees each of us. He knows us. He loves us in spite of us. Thank you for reminding me of this story today.
Once more a great share that strikes home today….
El Roi, the God who SEES, has always been one of my very favorite names of God. I am so comforted when I remember that He sees it all…and that He sees me. Great post!
Good morning Di; Always great to hear of the joy of the Lord. May God richly bless you and your family this Thanksgiving.

I love this story. Both times that God meets her in the desert. I’m so glad that God cared about the ‘other woman’ in the story too. That she was the One that God gave the privilege of seeing His special provision. Ever noticed how the down and out women of the Bible are the ones that so often received this from God? Loved it!
Beautiful perspective, Somer. So often we are the “other woman” … In need of His special provision. Thanks for stopping by!
Love you, a Daddy! Thanks for leaving a sweet note. See you in a few days!!
Dianne, I absolutely loved this. Thank you for sharing. That verse speaks directly to my heart.
Blessings to you, Patty!
Thanks, Stephanie. I certainly need a regular reminder!
What an encouraging message, Dianne! God sees me. He knows everything that’s going on in my life…in my heart. And He cares. He walks along beside me…behind me…before me. He is always with me. He is my hope…my confidence…my Hero. Great job for a Five-Minute Friday post! I never quite caught on to those. Thank you for sharing God’s amazing grace with us! Many blessings for a wonderful Thanksgiving week!
Ahhh … thanks, Sabra. “My hero.” <3 Life has been so busy with my teenagers. When I stumbled up on the fmf group, I thought it would be a nice way to "do something" without having to invest so much of my limited time.
